Irish Examiner - County - - News - Christy Parker

Youghal Choral Society annual Christmas Carol Service takes place at 7pm this Sunday at St Mary’s Parish Church, Ashe St.

“This is the 39th year of the event which is the longest running carol service in the town”, says co-organiser, soprano and harpist, Una Whyte.

Unflinchingly proud of the occasion, Una says the free event “has become a hugely popular tradition for many people in the east Cork and west Waterford area”.

Guests on the night of carols, music and readings will include the Midleton IMP (Irish Meat Packers) choir, directed by John Casey; Youghal Youth Choir and orchestra, directed by Patricia Whyte; and tin whistle player, Siobhan Murphy. Accompanist on the night will be musician Cormac de Frein.

The choral society’s repertoire will include its traditional and highly popular version of ‘Oh Holy Night’.
