Sum­mer BEEP ex­pected

Early sum­mer in 2019 is the date tar­geted by Agri­cul­ture Min­is­ter Michael Creed to have the Beef En­vi­ron­men­tal Ef­fi­ciency Pi­lot (BEEP) in place.

The €20 mil­lion pi­lot scheme for suck­ler farm­ers will tar­get wean­ing ef­fi­cienc y o f s u ck l e r c o w s a n d calves, by pay­ing farm­ers to weigh calves at wean­ing. This pi­lot scheme for 2019 o n l y w i l l b e re s t r i c t e d t o 500,000 head, which will al­low for pay­ment of €40 per cow. If the scheme is over­sub­scribed, se­lec­tion cri­te­ria will be ap­plied.

It is ex­che­quer funded, and will be sub­ject State Aid de min­imis pro­vi­sions.
