Macra Agricultural Skillnet’s outstanding young leaders
Macra Agricultural Skillnet recently recognised its outstanding young leaders at the 2018/19 ABP Leaders of the Year Awards.
The winners were: Marie Harnett, Waterford City Macra. Josephine O’neill, Callan Macra, Co Kilkenny Hannah Driver, Tullow Macra, Co Carlow
Marie Harnett was delighted with her award.
“It’s fantastic to get recognised for all the work that we do and to be seen that highly by others. It’s a great achievement”.
She is the National Treasurer of Macra, and Waterford’s national council representative, she emphasised the importance of the NCR role. “It’s the link between the counties and the national structure. It’s a voice for the counties at a national level, and then bringing back national information back to counties and trying to help develop the clubs within the county.”
Hannah Driver, a Waterford IT graduate said receiving the award was an honour.
“As I said in my interview, everyone there deserved to be there. I personally would not have been able to pick out the top three people. “Everyone was a leader in their own right, so it came down to the three judges, and it was a very tricky task for them, you knew by looking at the people it was a very tough top six, everyone deserved it really”.
Hannah joined Tullow Macra aged 17 and has held numerous club and county roles. She hopes to progress within the organisation at a national level, but not before she dedicates more time to her club and county.
“I’ll wait till I know myself that the time is right to go, at the minute it’s not. I would like to get more involved with my club and county” Josephine O’neill has represented Callan Macra in public speaking and debating. Being crowned the 2018 International Miss Macra is one of her Macra highlights. “For all of us to be recognised for everything that we do is lovely but it was also lovely that I am able to be a part of such a great club. “I didn’t win that award by myself. I won that award with all of the people in my club and with all of the people that are in my county who worked so hard. I just happened to be the person who got the award, so it’s really nice to be part of an organisation and to be recognised” she said.
