Soil fer­til­ity gains

Tea­gasc says anal­y­sis of 45,000 soil sam­ples sub­mit­ted to it in 2018 by landown­ers for test­ing re­sulted in 15% of the soils sam­pled fall­ing into the “good over­all” cat­e­gory for soil fer­til­ity, up from 12% in 2017, The “good over­all” cat­e­gory means soil ph over 6.2, and soil P and K at In­dex 3 or 4. Over 50% of soils tested had ph over 6.2, and there was a large re­duc­tion in the ph un­der 5.5 cat­e­gory.

Tests show fewer soils are short of lime in 2019.
