■ 42% of mums say what they most adore about motherhood is depth of love they feel for their children.
■ 21% say it’s spending precious time together, while 16% most enjoy watching their children learn new things.
■ More than 20% of mums spend over 30 hours a week family time together.
■ Partners (90%), parents (71%) and siblings (48%) are top of mums’ support network, but online experts (17%), social media mums/bloggers (16%) and online forums/chats (16%) form significant parts of mums’ ‘village’.
■ Mums are equally split between those who feel motherhood is what they expected (52%) and those who believe it isn’t (48%). Those who feel it isn’t are one-fifth less happy (20%) than before they gave birth. A third felt they wanted to disappear at some point since becoming a mum.
■ 27% of mums say balancing childcare and career is their biggest challenge.
■ 29% agree motherhood is more emotionally challenging that they expected.
■ 38% say time by themselves or time with partner is what they miss most. 16% of mums miss spontaneity. 32% say getting out in the fresh air and having an uninterrupted bath are their preferred stress relievers.
■ 75% of couples say they have less sex since becoming parents.
■ A typical Sunday for a family is spent at a local amenity (59%) or with grandparents and family (52%).
