HUN­DREDS of restau­rants, cafés and bars in Gal­way are join­ing forces with lo­cal food pro­duc­ers this week to cel­e­brate its Euro­pean Re­gion of Gas­tron­omy ti­tle. Ex­pect spe­cially de­signed menus high­light­ing the very best pro­duce the county has to of­fer. Gal­way city and county has more than 350 restau­rants — two with Miche­lin stars and now three with Bib Gour­mands. Pro­gramme co-or­di­na­tor Elaine Dono­hue said the key to the re­gion’s suc­cess was the recog­ni­tion by chefs and restau­rant own­ers of the su­perb qual­ity of the re­gion’s lo­cal in­gre­di­ents and the value of sourc­ing from lo­cal food pro­duc­ers.
