ONE in four people over the age of 50 are at risk of developing atrial fibrillation, which, if left untreated, can significantly increase the risk of stroke. The symptoms of atrial fibrillation can include tiredness, dizziness, palpitations, chest pain, and shortness of breath, but very often a person living with the condition will experience no symptoms at all. As part of its ‘Prevent a Stroke: Feel the Pulse’ campaign, the Irish Heart Foundation is asking everyone aged over 50 to make a twice-daily pulse check a part of their routine. The IHF website has all the information needed to help keep track of your pulse checks and to educate people on atrial fibrillation.
