Aim to understand: Child with autism, experiencing meltdown, may shut down, unable to communicate, or become very upset, kick and scream.

This needs to be understood as ‘person with autism experiencing meltdown’, not as a behaviour issue.

As children become more self-aware, they need to have input into how they’re supported.

If child with autism doesn’t want special needs assistant sitting next to them these feelings need to be heard.
