Ryder 2026 decision in next few months

Irish Examiner - Sport - - GOLF -

A decision on the 2026 Ryder Cup will be confirmed “in the next three to four months,” European Tou rchief Keith Pelley has said.

Adare Manor is regarded as a strong contender to stage the beinnial event in eight years time, with Pelley indicating that it may face venue rivals for the bid.

Pelley said that after this year’s event at Le Golf National in Paris, which drew record crowds, the tour received “three or four calls” from parties interested in hosting the 2026 event. Of more immediate concern is the venue for Europe’s next hosting of the Ryder Cup, with Tour chiefs meeting with officials in Rome last week.

“Italy in 2022 is a story that people talk about but we had conversations this week about the opening ceremony being in the Colosseum. These are serious conversations with Italian decision makers and officials.” Concerns have been expressed about the delay in work on the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club. Pelley has described it as a “construction zone.”

“The fact is that the government has funded Marco Simone, the money has been transferred,” Pelley said. “The only thing we have a concern with is we were late getting the golf course started and we want to have at least one Italian Open at Marco Simone prior to the Ryder Cup. Our timelines are tight.”
