Ex­tra €1m for stu­dent as­sis­tance

Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter Joe McHugh will to­day an­nounce an ad­di­tional €1m is be­ing al­lo­cated to the Stu­dent As­sis­tance Fund for Pro­fes­sional Master of Ed­u­ca­tion stu­dents in fi­nan­cial dif­fi­culty. His depart­ment said the ex­tra money is ringfenced to pro­vide sup­port for stu­dents on Pro­fes­sional Master of Ed­u­ca­tion pro­grammes and is part of the depart­ment’s re­sponses to teacher sup­ply is­sues, as set out in the Teacher Sup­ply Ac­tion Plan.

In 2018 the al­lo­ca­tion for the Stu­dent As­sis­tance Fund was €9.1m. About 16,000 stu­dents ben­e­fit from it an­nu­ally. There is €10.1m now in the fund.
