Extra €1m for student assistance
Education Minister Joe McHugh will today announce an additional €1m is being allocated to the Student Assistance Fund for Professional Master of Education students in financial difficulty. His department said the extra money is ringfenced to provide support for students on Professional Master of Education programmes and is part of the department’s responses to teacher supply issues, as set out in the Teacher Supply Action Plan.
In 2018 the allocation for the Student Assistance Fund was €9.1m. About 16,000 students benefit from it annually. There is €10.1m now in the fund.
