Irish Examiner - - Front Page -

Gardaí were called to University Hospital Kerry in Tralee yesterday after an altercation between the partner of a patient and hospital staff who were trying to implement strict rules because of Covid-19. Partners of pregnant women are not being allowed to accompany the women for examinations such as scans amid restrictions to prevent the spread of coronavirus. However, it is understood the man became extremely irate and insisted on accompanying his partner. A number of people are being treated for coronavirus at the hospital, it is understood.

Staff needed the assistance of gardaí and hospital security staff to bring the situation under control in what one source said was an extremely upsetting incident for the staff.

It took over 30 minutes to resolve matters.

It is understood that no charges are being pressed.
