Swim­mer in trou­ble air­lifted to hos­pi­tal

A young girl was air­lifted to hos­pi­tal yes­ter­day af­ter she got into dif­fi­culty while swim­ming in the sea off Clare.

A large search and res­cue op­er­a­tion was launched af­ter a swim­mer was re­ported to be in trou­ble off Dough­more Beach near Doon­beg at around 5pm. The Kil­kee and Doolin units of the Ir­ish Coast Guard, Na­tional Am­bu­lance Ser­vice paramedics, Aran Is­lands RNLI lifeboat, and the Shan­non-based search and res­cue he­li­copter, Res­cue 115, were all tasked to the scene. A man with a body­board helped the swim­mer ashore where she was met by paramedics be­fore she was air­lifted to hos­pi­tal for treat­ment.
