Swimmer in trouble airlifted to hospital
A young girl was airlifted to hospital yesterday after she got into difficulty while swimming in the sea off Clare.
A large search and rescue operation was launched after a swimmer was reported to be in trouble off Doughmore Beach near Doonbeg at around 5pm. The Kilkee and Doolin units of the Irish Coast Guard, National Ambulance Service paramedics, Aran Islands RNLI lifeboat, and the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 115, were all tasked to the scene. A man with a bodyboard helped the swimmer ashore where she was met by paramedics before she was airlifted to hospital for treatment.
