The Japanese global operator of the 7-Eleven franchise agreed to buy Marathon Petroleum’s petrol forecourts in the US for $21bn (€17.8bn), adding 3,900 Speedway outlets to clinch a dominant position of almost 14,000 stores in the US and Canada. Seven & I pushed ahead with the deal amid its concern Canada’s Alimentation Couche-Tard, which in Ireland owns Circle K, would snap up Speedway for itself.
