-

MALE Champion of the Show ‘Cill Cormiac Perseus’ capped his success in the show ring by achieving the top price of the day in the salesring at the Hereford Breed Society Premier Autumn Sale at GVM Mart, Tullamore.

Having won 2nd prize in his class at the National Hereford Show earlier this year ‘Cill Cormiac Perseus’, exhibited by David Larkins, Kilcormac, Co Offaly, is a bull of great shape, length and strength at just 18 months old, making him a fine candidate which attracted interest from both the show judge and the breeders as he sold for €4,850 to Declan Donnelly from the very successful and long-established Clondrina herd.

David Larkin added to his success when he received the second highest price of the sale for ‘Cill Cormiac Pius’ an attractive bull with five stars on the Terminal Index and a calving ease of 3.3pc for which he received €3,500.

Next highest price was paid for Michael Molloy’s smashing 18-month-old bull ‘Moyclare Quality’ adorned with the rosette for Reserve Champion of David Larkin, Kilcormac, Co Offaly with his Champion Bull, ‘Cill Cormiac Perseus’ at the Hereford Premier Show at Tullamore

the Show for which he received €3,300. This bull was bred from the same dam as last year’s sale topper, Moyclare Phoenix sold for €6,600.

Padraig McGrath, received €3,100 for ‘Kye Gerard 793’, and John Canty was paid €3,000 for ‘Portanob Rob’, while Shane O’Driscoll, a relatively new breeder to the pedigree Hereford scene, exhibited a remarkable young bull that performed well at a number of shows earlier this year.

While some very respectable prices were recorded, overall trade was tough for the start of the season with clearance for the bulls a bit disappointing.
