Hozier: Don’t believe your own hype!

HOZIER, who will release his new album, ‘Wasteland, Baby!’, on March 1, can teach young bands a thing or two about dealing with fame on an international scale.

His song, turned the Wicklow man into a superstar overnight, and his self-titled debut album has now amassed over 2.1 billion streams on Spotify alone.

“I didn’t buy into it,” Hozier says of fame. “I didn’t internalise it and I think that’s really the trick. I think there’s a real mistake you can make believing your own hype and your own bullsh*t.

“I was really grateful and thrilled with the success of and then the success of the album, and the fact that we were able to tour globally for as long as we did in the aftermath. But one album isn’t a career and I have to keep doing the work honestly.”

Hozier will play Irish Independent Park, Cork, on June 25.
