Kilkenny farm guided at €11,000/ac

-

WITH Kilkenny land scarce on the market this year the auction – on Thursday this week – of an 86ac holding on the outskirts of the Marble City will be closely watched by locals anxious to determine how land values are holding up. The farm at Feathallagh, Johnswell is guided at €11,000 to €11,500/ ac.

Feathallagh is a very interesting placename that can be translated as ‘lime land’ from ‘fia taolach’ with ‘aol’ being the Irish for lime and ‘fia’ the word for land.

The word ‘fia’ also refers to a wooded area. Perhaps ‘limewood’ might be more accurate.

Whatever about the exact translation the mention of ‘lime’ in the name will only serve to enhance the reputation of the land quality.

Located just 8km from Kilkenny city the holding is bisected by the Johnswell to Clara road leaving c47ac at one side and c39ac at the other giving plenty of road frontage to both.

The larger portion includes the farmyard, which holds the remnants of a dwelling house along with a range of useful but dated sheds including haybarns and various other structures that could do with attention. The land with this particular section is described by auctioneer Pat Gannon as ‘right good’ ground that would be much sought after by any farmer. Across the road a c39ac parcel is also described as good ground but not quite the standard of the larger section.

The property will be offered in its lots or as an entire at auction in the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny at 3pm this Thursday, August, 13.

House and site

At the same auction, but in a separate sale, a house associated with the property at Feathallagh will be sold.

Set on a 4.5ac site the residence comes with a guide price of €250,000.

Located about 6km from Kilkenny City the two-storey dwelling is set on an elevated site with great views of the surrounding countryside.

In need of extensive renovation the accommodation extends to 2,300 sq ft

Tidy lot:

The 47ac lot at the holding near Johnstown includes the farmyard and remains of an old house and includes two reception rooms, four bedrooms, a bathroom and garage.

Pat Gannon says both sales represent great opportunities to purchase good lands and a house with potential located close to Kilkenny City.
