Ballyjames­duff

A good sale of mainly heavy lambs, with 58kgs selling to €190/hd and 52kgs to €185/ hd, while a batch of 53kgmade €188/hd or €3.55/kg as those who bought for fattening before Christmas cashed in.

Store samples included 41kgs at €138/hd and 43kgs at €145/hd. Cull ewes mostly made €160-170/hd.

John Tevlin said that while there is currently “money in sheep, there is no return out of in-lamb ewes”. A very serious developmen­t long term.

Enniscorth­y

A sizeable entry, with smooth trade and especially strong demand for light stores.

Heavy hoggets made €159164/hd, with a batch of 51kgs selling for €158/hd or €3.10/ kg.

Factory lambs made €140157/hd, as in the case of 49kgs that averaged €3.20/kg. Forward stores sold from €134140/hd while lighter stores ranged from €66-134/hd.

Heavy cull ewes sold from €146-198/hd, with lighter types €60-142/hd.

Manorhamil­ton

There was a good show of sheep and a dear trade here last week, with heavy ewes peaking at €201/hd for 60kgs in a trade that mostly made €170-180/hd.

Among the lighter types 41kgs made €142/hd. Good heavy cull ewes averaged around €180/hd, with stores starting at €80/hd.

Among the springers twelve ewes carrying 24 lambs sold to a market-topping €227/hd.

Dowra

Saturday’s sale saw 1,300 sheep sold in a trade where bigger batches of hogget performed well.

Among the heavies were forty-eight 59kgs at €197/hd and fifty 55kgs at €196.50/hd, while the top call saw six 65kg hoggets average €200.50/hd.

Further down the weights fifty-eight at 49.5kg sold to €179.50/hd.

Among the forward stores the top call saw eleven 36kg lambs sell to €140/hd although ten at 36.5kgs was possibly more in line with the majority of better types.
