Carnaross

Numbers of bullocks and heifers reached 760 last week, with Northern buying improving trade across the board.

Good forward continenta­l bullocks sold off a base of €3.00/kg, with the tops making €3.50-3.60/kg. Angus bullocks made up to €3.00/kg with Friesians hitting €2.50/ kg.

The top store heifers made €3.60-3.70/kg, with the more average 500-520kg at €3.003.20/kg and heavy heifers peaking at €2,300/hd for 700kg Limousins.

Weanling bulls hit €4.20/ kg, with most at €3.30-3.40/ kg.

Ballyjames­duff

Here too Northern buying was a major factor, and reduced numbers also lifted prices. The dearest animal was the light bullock, with 330kgs hutting €4.00/kg.

Among the beef heavy bullocks made €3.10-3.15/kg, with more average types at €2.80/ kg.

Gortatlea

Last week’s entry reached 2,700, but with factory and feedlot buyers more active, prices pushed on by 10-20c/ kg. Northern demand was also significan­t.

Better Angus bullocks and heifers made €2.90-300/kg, with better Hereford at €2.802.90, with lesser types €2.702.80/kg.

Continenta­l bullocks and heifers made €3.00-3.40/kg with maybe a bit more edge on the bullock side.

The better Friesian bullock sold from €2.40-2.50/kg with poorer types around €2.20/kg. Demand for factory and store cows was strong, with prices up €50-100/hd.

New Ross

Numbers fell to 644 on Saturday, from 990 the previous week. Trade was improved for beef and very strong for stores.

Beef bullocks made €1,2601,710/hd over the €/kg, with continenta­l stores €600-1,410/ hd over and Hereford and Angus stores €460-1,240/hd over.

Heavy Friesians sold to €1,100/hd over with Friesian stores €360-600/hd over.

Tight heifer numbers lifted beef to €1,160-1,610/hd over the €/kg, with continenta­l stores €620-€1,260/hd over and Hereford and Angus €430-1,190/hd over.

Ennis

Numbers of bullocks were back slightly on Friday, with just over 400 on offer, most of which were forward types over 500kg.

Bullocks over 600kg held steady, with lighter types a shade dearer.

The factory types included, 710kg Angus at €2,190, 920kg Charolais at €2,730 and 840kg Limousin at €2,620.

Among the forward stores four 549kg Herefords averaged €1,540/hd, four 501kg Limousins made €€1,780/hd and a 620kg Friesian sold at €1,540.
