Delvin

Numbers here reached 400 with Elliott Potterton reporting a robust trade that saw 3540kg hoggets average €124/hd — a full €27/hd stronger than March last year.

Among the 40-45kg hoggets, prices peaked at €167.50 for 42.8kg while your 45-50kg hogget averaged €172/hd with the top call seeing 49.5kgs selling to €191/hd.

Among the lighter lots were 11 30kg lambs that sold to €122/hd, while two 36kg spring lambs made €152/hd. Top call on the cull ewe side was 193/hd, with prices overall averaging €158/hd.

Macroom

Jerh O’Sullivan reported a big sale with 1,000 sheep on show. Trade was dominated by hoggets, with Gerry reporting your 46-52kg type as selling to a strong €4.00/kg.

Samples included 46kgs at €186/hd, 48kgs at €193/hd and 52kgs for €203/hd. Lighter types averaged from €3.804.00/kg.

Spring lambs were scarce with the small entry seeing 33kgs selling to €132/hd and 35kgs making up to €138/hd.

Carnew

A strong showing saw 2,306 sheep presented last Thursday, with trade up another €3-4/hd for hoggets.

The top call saw 30 mixed hoggets sell to €219/hd, with pens of 19 and 15 ewes at 56 and 54kg both averaging €217/ hd, while six 54kg ewes averaged €210/hd.

Among the stars on the day were 33 45kg mixed hoggets that sold to €285/hd or €4.11/ kg.

Dingle

Numbers were lower than previously but Nelius McAuliffe noted no fall off in demand or prices.

Samples prices among the hoggets included 50kgs selling to €190/hd, with 44kgs making up to €150/hd while at the lighter end 34kg peaked at €116/hd.

Among the mountain lamb were batches that had been fed and which paid back that feeding with 40kg hitting €134/hd.
