Kilmallock

Numbers hit 1,900 last Tuesday — including 1,000 calves — with prices strong across all sections.

Among the bullocks, the top call included eight 480kg Herefords that averaged €1,350/ hd, five 563kg Simmentals at €1,450/hd, seven 522kg Friesians at €1,280/hd and eight 379kg Angus at €1,050/hd.

On the heifer side, three 425kg Herefords sold to €1,200/hd, with three at 328kgs making €880/hd while two 460kg Angus averaged €1,240/hd.

Best of the calves was a fourweek-old Simmental bull that sold for €405, followed by a four-week-old Belgian Blue at €380.

Kanturk

The story here was similar with trade strong and a little over half the 1,320 animals on offer being calves.

Of those calves, anything over 50kgs sold well with the top call seeing a 90kg Belgian Blue bull making €400.

Among the bullocks, the top calls included four 580kg Charolais at €1,590/hd, six 462kg Angus at €1,300/hd and seven 282kg Herefords at €890/hd.

Angus dominated on the heifer side with three at 468kgs averaging €1,320/hd.

Balla

With a lot of online activity from both shippers and farmers, last Tuesday evening’s show and sale was a thriving success. Weanling bulls from 250-350kgs averaged €3.56/ kg with those from 350-450kgs averaging €3.48kgs, while your heavier bull averaged €3.53/kg.

Prices for top quality, however, ranged from €3.70-4.70/ kg with the champion, a 540kg Belgian Blue, making €2,440, or €4.52/kg.

Raphoe

A good entry of stock saw plenty of competitio­n, with forward cattle selling from €2.70-3.50/ kg.

Among the medium to heavy stores, prices ranged from €2.70-3.70/kg, while your lighter animal averaged from €2.80-4.00/kg.

Angus sold from €2.50-3.20/ kg, with Friesian bullocks averaging from €2.20-2.70/kg. Bull cows made from €8002,100/hd.

Roscommon

Fridays mart incorporat­ed a fat stock sale, bringing the total number to 500. Trade overall saw bullocks average €3.10/ kg, while your beef heifer averaged €3.00/kg.

For those who like their cattle big, the top weight saw a Charolais bullock tip the scales at 1,010kg and selling at €3,200.

Dearest bullock per kg was a 605kg Charolais at €2,350 or €3.88/kg, while among the heifers the top call saw a 550kg Limousin sold for breeding make €2,630, or €4.78/kg.

A strong cull cow trade saw prices average €2.60/kg.
