Here’s to the seasonal social flurry

Irish Independent - Weekend Magazine - - Front Page -

It’s already started: the manic flurry of emails and texts arranging to meet up before Christmas. It always baffles me why we panic to see colleagues, old school friends and second cousins twice removed in the four weeks before Christmas, when we quite happily ignore them for the rest of the year. It just doesn’t make sense. But I suppose Christmas is a time when, for once, we stop worrying about work and to-do lists and start to think about what is important — and that is the people in our lives. So yes, I’ll be running around seeing old friends and leaving them with the words “We mustn’t leave it so long…” knowing it will be a year before I see them again. Oh, well. Once a year is better than never.
