This debut novel from the Dublin-based author is set in a strange world and centres on Ada, her father and their quiet life together in a clearing in the woods outside of town. Their time is spent tending for local Cures — the human folk who come to them with various ailments and for whom they care little. The life they have made for themselves is turned on its head when Ada begins a relationship with a local Cure named Samson. Ada’s father and Samson’s widowed, pregnant sister are displeased and Ada soon finds herself having to choose between her new and old lives. Described as a “dazzlingly troubled dream” by acclaimed shortstory writer Colin Barrett, it’s a book unlike any other.
