CLODAGH Cogley had a lucky escape when another person on the balcony came to her rescue.
The granddaughter of legendary RTÉ rugby commentator Fred Cogley, Clodagh suffered extensive injuries to her legs and spine. Her father works at TV3.
It could have been much worse if another victim, Jack Halpin, had not come to her aid and managed to fall under her.
It is understood that as she fell, Jack Halpin helped to break her fall.
Clodagh’s brother Daragh said Clodagh was recovering after surgery. He thanked Jack in a touching message posted online.
“She is awake, somehow upbeat and doing really well. [We] can’t believe how lucky she and the rest of the survivors were and Clodagh wanted to say particular thanks to Jack Halpin for grabbing her and breaking her fall,” he wrote.

Studying: Graduated from a Commerce degree course in UCD
FOOTBALLER Jack Halpin has been hailed as a hero, as he saved the life of another victim.
The 21-year-old student, who has just graduated from UCD, where he studied Commerce, grabbed Clodagh Cogley to help break her fall.
He is now being treated for back injuries and sustained two broken legs during the horrific late-night accident.
Jack has worked in Omniplex cinemas for two years and hails from Rathmines. His employers last night hailed his actions as the “ultimate act of bravery and selflessness”.
He attended St Mary’s College and is a popular player in St Jude’s GAA club. Sean O’Sullivan, St Jude’s PRO, said that Jack was “always a good lad” and it was unsurprising that he put his life at risk. Jack’s father is a coach. His mother and sister have travelled to California.
Jack was close friends with Nick Schuster, who died in the accident, as well as Conor Flynn, who was also injured.
Hannah Waters Age: 21
School: Loreto College, St Stephen’s Green From: Castleknock
Studying: In Dublin City University
HANNAH Waters from Deerpark, Castleknock is one of the most seriously injured.
She is being treated at Oakland Hospital in San Francisco, where her parents Martin and Una are understood to be at her bedside.
“They left straight away of course”, a neighbour told the Irish Independent. “My heart goes out to them all and their families.”
Residents in Castleknock were in shock, said parish priest Denis O’Connor, with many offering their “prayers to this girl’s family”.
“They’re well known in the area and everyone here is praying for their daughter’s recovery. So many have felt this tragedy because it could have happened to any of their children,” he added.
Aoife Beary Age: 21 School: Loreto Foxrock From: Blackrock Studying: Unknown
AOIFE Beary remained in a critical condition in hospital last night. The young Dublin woman hails from Springhill Avenue in Blackrock.
Her parents, Michael and Angela, flew from Ireland to be by her bedside in Oakland Hospital as soon as they heard the news on Tuesday.
It is understood that the party taking place on Monday night was Aoife’s 21st and it was held in an apartment she shared with Eimear Walsh and Olivia Burke, who lost their lives.
Aoife posted an image of her boarding pass on Instagram the day she left for the States, May 25. She then kept her family and friends updated with various pictures as she became acquainted with her home for the summer, including a group photo at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.

NIALL Murray (21) was recovering last night from his injuries. According to his Facebook page he is studying at National University of Ireland Galway.
His aunt, Mary O’Keefe, last night posted in the UCD book of condolence.
“I pray for the recovery of my wonderful nephew Niall Murray who was injured in this tragic accident. My deepest sympathy goes out to the families of the beautiful young men and women who lost their lives and those who were injured. No words can express how deeply I feel for all of those involved,” she wrote.

School: St Mary’s College From: Rathmines, Dublin

TWENTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD Sean Fahey from Rathmines, Dublin, was also injured in the balcony collapse.
He attended St Mary’s College, along with two of his friends who died in the tragedy, Niccolai Schuster and Eoghan Culligan.
His family has now travelled to San Francisco and were at his bedside last night at Eden Medical Centre keeping a vigil.
He had been keeping his friends informed of his movements on Facebook and had recently told them he had enjoyed a night at Pappy’s Grill and Sports Bar in Berkeley.

School: Unknown From: Mount Merrion
Studying: Dublin Institute of Technology
THE family of Conor Flynn from Mount Merrion in Dublin are hopeful he will recover from injuries he suffered in the balcony collapse.
The 22-year-old was studying in DIT and had recently travelled to Berkeley, California, on the J1 visa.
He was friends with a number of the other young people at the party.
Conor played soccer with Bushy Park Rangers, along with some of the other victims involved in the accident.
His father Alan said he did not feel up to commenting yesterday.
But he did confirm that his wife had travelled to Berkeley to be at their son’s bedside.
