Tullamore put on show with girls’ rugby blitz

-

WITH the continuing good weather, Tullamore Rugby Club hosted a secondary schools girls’ blitz run by local CCROs in conjunction with Leinster Rugby with the aim of developing young players.

With high attendance from schools from Offaly and Westmeath, a wonderful group of ladies got together to show their own super rugby skills and pace.

With the highly anticipated Women’s World Cup in August 2017, it is wonderful to see the interest in women’s rugby grow and grow, and this was particularly evident in Tullamore.

Representing the Mullingar area were Loreto College and St Finian’s College.

Loreto entered an U-18 senior team and were able to take part competitively.

With a lot of their regular team-mates overnighting on a school trip in Achill, the remainder of the girls proved that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Unfortunately the girls didn’t make the top two teams to progress to the Leinster finals in Donnybrook.

St Finian’s girls had a U-15 team with them and were able to compete in friendly games.

They had really only started to tackle the week previous to the blitz, but from the outside, it looked like the girls had played together before. They gelled together wonderfully and showed great skills learned only over a two week period. A lot more to come from this team and we look forward to seeing them excel over the school season.
