Racing flex muscles with derby victory

RACING 92 needed a last-minute try from Camille Chat to take the Parisian derby honours from Stade Francais as they warmed up for the arrival of Munster this Sunday.

After a tough week, Juan Imhoff got Racing up and running with a try in the 11th minute, but Stade still claimed a six-point half-time lead thanks to Julien Arias.

But with Maxime Machenaud in rare form from the tee – he landed seven kicks at goal – Racing kept in touch and when Chat scored and Machenaud added the extras they denied Stade with a 29-22 win.

The win lifts Racing to seventh place in the standings, eight points behind leaders Clermont, in a league that no team has yet to take control of.

In the English Premiership, Munster’s week three opponents Leicester Tigers claimed a 34-13 win over Worcester Warriors.

Two tries in each half helped lifted Leicester into fourth place in the standings ahead of the European break.

Tom Brady got Leicester up and running with an early try and danger man Telusa Vianu gave them an early 20-0 lead, before Logovi’i Mulipola and Graham Kitchener wrapped up an easy win. And in the Pro12, Glasgow Warriors had two tries from Sean Lamont for a tight 33-25 win away to Zebre.

Leonardo Sarto came back to haunt his old team with a third try, while Fraser Brown also got in on the act for Gregor Townsend’s side.
