Students halt Cookies’ charge

YOUNG MUNSTER dropped to third in the Ulster Bank League Division 1A after their 32-27 defeat at Trinity.

The Limerick side clash with UCD on October 29, and after their great start to the season they are well in contention.

Last season Young Munster fell in the semi-finals away to Cork Con, but they have recruited well during the summer.

Fellow Limerick men Garryowen lost 16-14 at reigning champions Clontarf last weekend, and that was enough for them to fall to sixth. But just four points separate the top six sides in Division 1A.

Cork Con moved up to seventh, just one point further behind, when they won comprehensively, 31-13 at home to 2015 champions Lansdowne. And they will look to make further headway against Dubliners Old Belvedere in the next round of matches.

In Division 1B, UL Bohemians look destined for promotion already after a sensational start to the season, where they lead the way with four wins from four. Last weekend’s 27-23 victory at Galwegians reaffirmed their status as real contenders.

UCC are eighth in the table ahead of their massive Munster derby against tenth-placed Shannon next time out.

STRUGGLED

Both sides have struggled so far this season, as have Dolphin who are ninth – they lost 24-16 in Ballymena.

In Division 2A, Nenagh remain second, Highfield are fourth, Sunday’s are two places behind and Cashel are bottom.

In 2B Old Crescent are fourth, and Thomond are ninth.

Co Cork club Midleton are second in 2C, Bruff are ninth and Kanturk tenth.
