McAllister can’t halt another away loss

- Declan Rooney

TOULOUSE make the journey to Galway to face Connacht tomorrow, but they also tasted a road defeat last weekend when leaders Clermont won out 29-25.

First-half tries form Joe Tekori and Census Johnston could not prevent Toulouse from trailing 20-12 at the interval as Clermont also bagged two of their own before half-time.

Luke McAllister showed he is bang in form ahead of Europe with a try midway through the second half for Toulouse, but in a half that featured three yellow cards, the four-time European Cup winners couldn’t push ahead of their hosts to take their first away win of the season.

In the English Premiership, Wasps tasted defeat for the first time this campaign as champions Saracens gave them a 30-14 beating at Allianz Park. Josh Bassett briefly gave Wasps the lead after Mako Vunipola’s early try, but Mike Ellery and Jamie George (twice) crossed as Sarries reclaimed top spot.

And in the Pro12, a late try from Andries van Schalkwyk was not enough to give Zebre a first win of the season as Glasgow Warriors had two tries from Sean Lamont to thank for a tight 33-25 win away in Italy. Leonardo Sarto also came back to haunt his old team with a third try, and Carlo Canna kept Zebre in touch with some good first-half kicking. But tries from Tomas Venditti and Van Schalkwyk was not sufficient to earn a losing bonus point for the Italians.
