Economist McWilliams sees profits top €1m

ACCUMULATE­D profits at the media firm owned by celebrity economist David McWilliams soared to more than €1m last year.

McWilliams is ranked eighth in the world’s top 100 most influentia­l economists and has been a chronicler of Ireland’s roller-coaster economy over the past 15 years.

The Dubliner has also been busy building up his brand both here and across the globe and new figures show that it continues to pay off with profits at his Iconic Media Ltd increasing by €210,740, going from €884,037 to €1.094m in the 12 months to the end of March last.

The €210,740 increase in profit follows the firm increasing profits by €254,191 in the prior year.

At the end of last March, the firm had financial assets totalling €1.16m and its cash pile increased from €40,519 to €186,873.

McWilliams generates his income from his writings including as a columnist with the Irish Independen­t and speaking engagement­s around the world for the likes of Google and Sony.

In 2015, he joined Trinity College as an adjunct professor to deliver a course on global economics on the Trinity Executive MBA at the TCD Business School.

More recently, McWilliams launched a new online academy – Economics Without Boundaries.

The online academy will offer fully CPD-accredited courses and membership packages in the fields of economics and finance using contempora­ry teaching methods to distil complex economic theories into easy-to-follow concepts.

Directors’ remunerati­on totalled €89,050.
