O’Sullivan seals deal to book Pres’ final berth

MUNSTER SCHOOLS SNR CUP

PBC remain on course for a first Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup title since 2010 after they eventually saw off Bandon GS at Irish Independent Park yesterday.

Having trailed 3-0 since Sean Hudson’s third-minute penalty, the Cork boys found themselves repelled by excellent Bandon defending but they managed to push in front when centre Sean French scored a wonderful try in the 67th minute.

Due to injuries to Bandon’s Sean Hudson and Ethan Greene, stoppage-time lasted 18 minutes, and Bandon had a chance to take the lead again when awarded a penalty.

With regular kicker Hudson off the field, Evan Palmer’s effort tailed left.

Thereafter, Pres were able to run down time and captain and No 8 Jack O’Sullivan managed to get over at the death, Peter Sylvester converting.

Hudson’s penalty had given Bandon the edge early on and Pres were scoreless for the first half, though Sylvester was twice unlucky, hitting the post from a penalty and then seeing one from his own half go just under the bar.

Bandon’s resistance continued in the second period but the long delay affected their flow and eventually Pres’ pressure told, French putting in a lovely chip which he retrieved before diving over.

From there, they pushed on and now await Ardscoil Ris or Glenstal Abbey, who play today.
