One big contradiction
Write about the Church and you are sure to get feedback. David Quinn’s extensive comment (Irish Independent, May 5) lacks one major point.
The problem with the Church (regardless whether Catholic, or other) is it preaches compassion, the all-caring and almighty. The problem arises not through the action of individuals or its leadership throughout the ages, but rather through the constant contradiction of the message. In that sense, I think that the Church should not be compared to any state or other issues like the EU/Brexit.
I certainly acknowledge the cultural heritage even within myself, and perceive myself to behave on a “live and let live” basis, but on this article I would like to disagree.
However, if we were inclined to consider the Church just another power centre comparable to nationalist countries, then the article is of course a correct assessment. Hinni Kress Ballygawley, Co Tyrone
