Perfect dozen for five-star Cork

-

CORK CITY earned a 12th consecutive victory in straightforward fashion at Turner’s Cross last night.

Leading 1-0 at half-time, the Rebel Army turned the screw on their visitors in the second half to move 14 points clear of Bray Wanderers at the top of the table.

Stephen Dooley put the hosts ahead midway through the first half with a fine low finish from the edge of the area after a corner was kept alive.

Dooley, with a shot blocked, and then Gearoid Morrissey, denied by Ciaran Gallagher, might have doubled the lead, but Harps did go close as the break approached.

First, Sean Houston had a low shot saved by Mark McNulty, but City reasserted their dominance on the resumption.

Just before the hour mark, Sean Maguire made it 2-0 with his 10th league goal of the season as he lofted the ball over Gallagher after Ryan Delaney’s clearance put him away.

Morrissey added the third with 11 minutes left following another corner and Ryan Delaney headed home the fourth late on.

Maguire rounded things off with his second from the penalty spot after he had been fouled.
