Derry return to winning ways

-

DERRY City returned to winning ways with a comfortable win over Bohemians at Maginn Park last night.

Goals from Dean Jarvis and Aaron McEneff gave the hosts the victory, their first since defeating Drogheda United on March 18, a run of eight games. It was a deserved win for City, who were on top from the start.

Derry came close on 11 minutes, as Ronan Curtis tested Shane Supple from close range. The first half was not memorable in any sense of the word but the game got the goal it desperately needed on 31 minutes.

Josh Daniels won a free kick on the right and another accurate free-kick from McEneff again eluded the Bohs defence and Jarvis was well positioned to power a header past Supple.

It really should have been 2-0 to Derry less than ten minutes into the second half. Rob Cornwall was too slow to clear and Nathan Boyle charged the ball down and raced through on goal but the striker blasted the ball wide of the target.

But Derry got their reward on 68 minutes. Cornwall needlessly went into a challenge on Ben Doherty just inside the area, giving referee Rob Harvey an easy penalty decision.

McEneff stepped up and drove the ball into the net.
