Saudi, Israel both brutal regimes

I note an increase in letters lauding the Israeli state in the Irish Independent. Perhaps it’s a coincidence, but might it be a co-ordinated effort by Israel’s friends here?

Recently, we had the Saudis elected to the UN women’s rights commission, correctly called out for the farce it was. Israel was offered as an example of Middle East calm and democracy, a polar opposite to the Saudis.

The truth is both are warmongers. Both have a vested interested in turmoil in the region and both are brutal regimes. The UN has issued over 45 sanctions to Israel, all rendered null and void by its American ally’s veto.

Israel is a pariah among nations. Ireland was a respected voice for the oppressed. Let’s never forget that. John Cuffe Dunboyne, Co Meath
