John Donne, I would kiss you, if you were not so devoted to your lover ... or dead
IAM exhausted – three hours and 20 minutes. The sheer intensity of it was ... intense!
My hand doesn’t feel as though it is attached to my body any more. At least my main man, my romantic, poetic, metaphysical genius came up. Mr John Donne, I would kiss you if you weren’t so devoted to your lover ... or dead.
I have to admit I was stuck between Boland and Donne but I tried to be strategic by choosing Donne.
I know many people had the intention of tackling a Boland question. Not just the intention, but if Boland didn’t come up some people would’ve “walked straight out of the exam”. But, anyway the exam is “Donne”. You know, I actually feel a sense of loss. I’m going to mourn my English notes, my 500-page folders and hand-written novels. I put two years of work and effort into my English Paper 2 notes.
Large amounts of quotes and information about poets, authors and various writing techniques are draining out of my ears as I type.
Useless but interesting fact: 17 people were sitting the Ancient Greek exam today. Eavan Bolands of the future?
I searched Twitter for feedback, and I noticed one thing. No one studied ‘A Doll’s House’ by Henrik Ibsen?
All I see is ‘Hamlet’, ‘Hamlet’, ‘Hamlet’. I’m starting to think we were the only class in Ireland to study it. I don’t get it, I thought it was really accessible.
In this time of pain, I have noticed that the Leaving Cert community is supporting and commiserating each other with this persistent pressure.
It has just dawned on me what is happening today: Maths. The bane of my existence. My downfall, well, hopefully not. I still don’t have a second calculator. Someone asked online if “anyone knows the current exchange rate of Leaving Cert ‘good luck’ cards to CAO points?”
I may need the answer to that question if I don’t keep my cool. I don’t know what it is about maths that gets inside my head, and not in a good way.
The bad thing about scheduling an exam on a Friday, is that fun, fabulous Friday feeling will be stuck in all the students’ minds.
How are we supposed to calculate cold, calculus questions and differentiate between differentiation and integration? The weekend will provide us the chance to repress our study responsibilities. I’m joking ... I forgot to say that yesterday morning I woke up to ‘Wake me up before you go-go’ by Wham! It’s proving to be an astounding success. It’s not exactly a masterpiece like ‘The Chain’, but it makes me want to dance while I brush my teeth.
