Touch challenge

-

LAST Saturday week was a big day for the DLSP Touch team, whose progressive development saw them host another Touch team when they played Wicklow in a challenge match.

The game took place prior to the 1st XV Leinster League game between both clubs and is also believed to be the first official competitive Touch game to take place between two clubs.

The DLSP XV included a number of Salmo Stalwarts who are still proud to be donning the black jersey and wine and gold socks, including former 1st XV captain Frank Ennis, Martin Huggard, Peter Ashbrowne, Brian Murray and Paul Keating.

The pictures of both teams at the final whistle says much about what’s great about Touch Rugby.

It’s a sport that’s mixed, the age range is huge, it facilitates all levels (some have only played for a couple weeks yet were all able to play together), no blood was spilt, no one got hurt (despite the lack of brakes on some of the older machines!) and everyone had a great time.

For the record DLSP won 7-6 and all involved in DLSP would like to thank all those from Wicklow Touch Rugby for travelling to Kilternan for the challenge match.

If you know anybody who’d love to try Touch Rugby, please ask them to contact Peter Ashbrowne directly on: 087 9452049 and/or they would be very welcome to come to training in Kilternan on any Wednesday night at 8pm.
