IAG picks Paris as second base for low-cost carrier
LEVEL – the low-cost, longhaul airline launched by Aer Lingus owner IAG this year – has confirmed it’s to operate four routes from Paris Orly.
It will serve New York, Montreal, Guadeloupe and Martinique from next summer. IAG chief executive Willie Walsh said Level’s first base, at Barcelona, had been an “incredible success” and that the airline would be profitable this year.
Level started flying this year, with routes from Barcelona to North and South America.
The new carrier was a response by IAG to in-roads being made across the Atlantic by rivals such as Norwegian and Wow Air.
Paris had been a likely contender for the second Level base for some time, with Rome being flagged as another likely candidate.
Fares at Level start at €99 one-way. Level is also adding a Barcelona-Boston service.
Two A330 jets will be based at Orly by Level, and a third at Barcelona.
