Dublin’s Macauley gearing up to make top-flight basketball debut

-

DUBLIN’S Michael Darragh Macauley will become the latest footballer to play in basketball’s Super League as he begins his top-flight career with Éanna in UCD tomorrow evening at 8.0.

Macauley (right) has been playing the sport for many years but will play for the first time in the Super League.

“I’ve played basketball since I was very young and it was always a really big part of my life until I was 17 or 18 and then football took over,” he said. “Playing basketball has hugely benefited me for both sports. “There’s loads of players in the GAA who play basketball and it’s helped them tremendously and vice versa. It’s been a huge attribute to my Gaelic football. “Éanna is going from strength to strength at the moment,” he added. “And we are looking forward to the game v UCD this Thursday.” Macauley joins footballers Kieran Donaghy, whose Tralee side he is set to face after Christmas, and Aidan O’Shea, who plays for Sligo, in the National League.
