Adare declare steep hike in Overseas Membership fees

-

MEMBERS of “The Golf Course at Adare Manor” will be able to tee it up at the revamped Tom Fazio design from April 1 next year.

No doubt they will love the “Pure Distinction Bent Grass Greens”, “the latest Sub Air technology”, the “A4 Bent Grass approaches” and the “wall to wall cut grass”, meaning there is no “real” rough.

The bad news is that such luxuries come at a price and not all existing members, especially those enjoying overseas membership, were jumping for joy last week when they got a note about the new subscription fees for the luxurious Co Limerick venue.

Having paid an entrance fee of €5,000 less than a decade ago and a €500 annual subscription for a couple, the new rates for 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019 brought tears to the eyes of many.

“For existing International members there is a 3-year membership subscription as follows,” the overseas members were told. “2018 €1,500 per person; 2019 €2,500 and a compulsory €1,500 Food & Beverage Levy; 2020 €2,500 and a compulsory €1,500 Food & Beverage Levy.”

As for golfers hoping to test themselves over the revamped course, they can expect to pay up to €340, which is the “Peak Non-Resident” green fee rate.

However, if you happen to know a member, the guest green fee rate is €170 and €200 for Saturday and Sunday play in peak season.

No doubt, the overseas members will be reminding themselves of what Henry Rolls said about owning a Rolls Royce — “The quality will remain long after the price is forgotten.”
