Bookies braced for major pay-out at Powerstown

WEATHER proved a major problem on the second day of the National Coursing Meeting at Powerstown Park yesterday but the full programme was completed well before the light failed.

Entering today’s final stage, the bookmakers are praying for a few upsets as they face a substantial payout with many of the antepost favourites standing their ground.

The continued progress of Part Exchange and Silent Wonder would leave the layers with a nightmare result.

Part Exchange is now an even-money favourite to win the BoyleSports Derby, while Silent Wonder is a similar price for the Horse & Jockey Hotel Oaks.

Owen McKenna handles Part Exchange for local owners Mary O’Connor and Una Creed and he had things very easy yesterday.

His main rival for Derby honours would appear to be the Moss O’Connor-trained Silent Whisper which is only available at 2/1.

Scartaglin handler Moss O’Connor is also chasing a fantastic double as he trains litter comrades Silent Whisper and Silent Wonder.

The latter is an evens favourite for the bitch classic and the bookies would also face a major pay-out on that particular double.

It is hoped that the weather will be kinder for the final-day action which starts at 11.30.
