Mitchell brace lifts Westmeath

WESTMEATH 2-12 LONDON 1-10

-

NIALL MITCHELL pounced for two second-half goals in Ruislip to maintain Westmeath’s 100 per cent record.

Centre-forward Mitchell found the net twice in five minutes after the restart as the Lake County quickly overturned a two-point half-time deficit.

Westmeath were three points down by the midway point of the first period.

London led 0-7 to 0-5 at the break but fell behind in the 37th minute when Aaron Craig’s long-range attempt came back off the crossbar and Mitchell reacted quickest. The Clonkill man then raised the green flag for a second time.

London rallied, scoring an unanswered 1-2 with Michael Ivors grabbing their goal.

Three late points from Allan Devine kept Westmeath on course for promotion.
