Volkswagen’s recall: how the work is going

THE Volkswagen group here has completed work on nearly two-thirds of the diesel-engined vehicles – cars and vans – recalled in the wake of the emissions scandal.

There are three engines and four marques involved (Audi, VW, SEAT and Skoda).

The 2-litre TDis require just a software update with work taking half an hour or so.

Work on the 1.2 TDi engines also only takes around 30 minutes.

But those with 1.6-litre TDI engines involve both software and hardware upgrades and take an hour to sort out.

The hardware involves fitting a new ‘flow transformer’ to help better regulate how fuel and air are burned in the engine.

Here is a breakdown of the numbers dealt with so far. The figures were sought and obtained by Motors from the Volkswagen Group.

All cars (Irish and imports):

• Of 144,308 vehicles due, 64pc have been fixed.

• Of 63,776 Volkswagen, 67pc completed

• Of 43,712 Audi, 64pc completed

• Of 6,022 SEAT, 67pc completed

• Of 20,346 Skoda, 61pc completed

• Of 10,452 vans, 54pc completed Irish vehicles:

• Of 83,342 vehicles, 69pc completed

• Of 35,940 Volkswagen, 73pc completed

• Of 18,404 Audi, 71pc completed

• Of 4,363 SEAT, 72pc completed

• Of 16,189 Skoda, 65pc completed

• Of 8,446 Vans, 57pc completed

The level of imports is affecting the overall average, as the Irish figures show.
