Brennan wins again in US

-

SHANNON’S Daniel Brennan was back in the winner’s circle as Bethune-Cookman University won the team event in the Stetson Legacy Intercollegiate in Florida.

The 54-hole, two-day event was played at The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes in Longwood with Bethune-Cookman winning a fiveman playoff by one hole after they tied with Florida Gulf Coast.

Now in his final year at the Daytona Beach college, Brennan fired rounds of 71, 67 and 76 to finish on two-under-par before going on to beat Florida Atlantic’s Sully Zagerman on the first extra hole for the individual honours.

It was the Shannon man’s second win in three events following his victory in the Homewood Hilton Airport Invite at Old Corkscrew Golf Club last November.

Kinsale’s John Murphy returned to action for the University of Louisville, helping the Cardinals finish fifth in the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette.

Murphy opened with a threeunder 69 but followed that with rounds of 74 and 73 to tie for 25th individually on level par, ten strokes behind Texas A&M’s Dan Erickson.

Wake Forest’s Paul McBride will play his second event of 2018 in the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Mexico this weekend following his tie for 25th in the All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston last week.

In women’s golf, Leona and Lisa Maguire will be joined by Olivia Mehaffey in Hilton Head tomorrow for the Darius Rucker Invitational at Long Cove Club.

Mehaffey clinched her maiden individual win in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge two weeks ago and is now ranked 11th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking with Leona No 1.
