Casey rescues Gypsies

JUST as they did on their last visit to Markets Field in February, Bohemians plundered a late equaliser to silence the vociferous Limerick support.

Limerick had dominated the first half and led on 34 minutes through Barry Maguire’s goal, which had looked like being enough for a first home win in almost three months.

However, as Bohs pushed forward in the closing stages, Dan Casey’s shot struck the post and rolled into the Limerick net.

Despite being hit by injuries, suspension and international call-ups, Limerick were much the better team in the first half went ahead when Maguire latched onto Mark O’Sullivan’s knockdown and steered it beyond Shane Supple from close range.

The midfielder ought to have doubled his tally just a couple of minutes later, steering the ball wide from an inviting Will Fitzgerald lay-off.

Bohs had been rather flat in the first half but came out after the interval with a renewed vigour and, soon after the restart, Dylan Watts prompted a good stop from Brendan Clarke.

At the other end, O’Sullivan looked primed to score until Derek Pender got in a last-ditch block, before substitute Karl O’Sullivan force a fine save from Supple after a weaving run.

Bohs kept chasing for an equaliser and were rewarded in the 85th minute when Casey’s effort found the Limerick net.
