Donegal set to appeal McGee red but Dunne out for Faithful

DONEGAL are keen to have full-back Neil McGee available for their Ulster SFC final against Fermanagh later this month and will appeal the red card he received in last Sunday’s semifinal defeat of Down.

Two-time All-Star defender McGee was dismissed after allegedly making contact with Connaire Harrison’s back with his knee but Declan Bonner’s men still ran out convincing winners.

McGee, who was already on a yellow card, was shown a straight red by Wicklow referee Anthony Nolan after a linesman brought the incident to his attention but Donegal chairman Mick McGrath explained that they will not take the decision lying down.

“As of lunch-time we have not yet seen the referee’s report, but we will be appealing the red card decision. From watching the video of the matter, we believe that we have the basis for an appeal,” McGrath said yesterday.

Elsewhere, Offaly are unlikely to appeal Nigel Dunne’s red card against Antrim with Paul Rouse set to plan for their round two qualifier tie against Clare without their top scorer.
