Singh shines but Ireland lose out

SIMI SINGH starred in Rotterdam but was just unable to get Ireland over the line as the Boys in Green opened their tri-series campaign with a four-run defeat by the Netherlands.

Ireland were 96-8 after 16.4 overs

– and looked well beaten chasing 144 – when YMCA’s Singh was joined by Barry McCarthy only for the ninth-wicket pair to smash 22 from the penultimate over to leave 12 to win from the final six balls.

Singh was left on 57 not out as he only managed a single from the last ball when a six would have pulled off a famous win.
