Ferris and Allen set for Slieve Russell Pro-Am
RUGBY star Stephen Ferris and snooker ace Mark Allen will tee it up in the 26th Slieve Russell Masters Pro-Am from June 25-26.
The 36-hole two-day tournament has been a cornerstone of the PGA in Ireland schedule over the last two decades, raising €200,000 for charity with the professionals earning €1.2m in prize-money.
With past winners such as Ryder Cup stars Philip Walton and Eamonn Darcy, it was no surprise to see a quality winner last year with former Walker Cup star Colm Moriarty firing a brilliant final round 66 to see off David Higgins, Brendan McGovern and Simon Thornton.
In recent years the pre-tournament par-three competition and barbecue – scheduled for June 24 this year – has added an extra dimension to the event, particularly for the amateurs.
“This tournament has always managed to attract full fields with many amateurs returning to compete time and again,” said Slieve Russell’s Head Professional, Gordon Smyth.
“That says a lot about the venue, the hotel and the golf course. This year will be no different and we hope to have a full field of 52 teams.”
Sporting celebrities Allen and Ferris will play this year with RTE 2FM’s ‘Game On’ team set to broadcast live from the venue.
Entry for the 2018 Slieve Russell Masters Pro-Am costs €780 which includes a practice round on Sunday followed by the par-3 tournament, barbecue and a four-course meal.
