Senator draws duchess into row on abortion referendum
THE Duchess of Sussex was last night drawn into a row over the abortion referendum by Senator Catherine Noone.
The Fine Gael Senator sparked controversy when she tweeted how she and Meghan Markle discussed the vote on the Eighth Amendment when she met the royals at a reception yesterday evening.
“A pleasure to meet Prince Harry & the Duchess of Sussex at the British Ambassador’s Residence this evening,” she wrote on Twitter. “The Duchess & I had a chat about the recent referendum result. She watched with interest & was pleased to see the result.”
Ms Noone later deleted the tweet and admitted it was ill-judged. “I deleted it because it was unintentionally misleading – the duchess was not in any way political.”
Businessman and anti-abortion activist Declan Ganley tweeted in response: “Noone is characteristically now trying to change her story.”
