Learning is a lifelong quest for more than half of adults
MORE than half of adults participate in lifelong learning, new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show.
Some 53.9pc reported participating in lifelong learning, including formal and, or, nonformal education.
Just over one in 12 participated in formal education in the past 12 months.
Those who were unemployed were more than three times more likely to participate in formal education than those in employment, at 28.2pc compared with 7.6pc.
Almost half of adults aged 25-64 received non-formal education.
Employed people were more likely to have participated in non-formal education than those who were unemployed, at 59.3pc against 38.3pc.
Meanwhile, younger people were more likely to participate in lifelong learning than older people. Some 63.4pc of those aged 25-34 participated in lifelong learning.
