Taylor left out of Welsh squad

SEAMUS COLEMAN’S old foe Neil Taylor will not be a part of the Welsh squad that faces Ireland in Cardiff next Thursday.

The Aston Villa full-back was absent from the 25-man squad that was named by new boss Ryan Giggs.

Taylor was responsible for the tackle that broke Coleman’s leg in the scoreless World Cup qualifying draw between the sides in March of last year.

It ruled Ireland’s skipper out for the rest of the qualifying tilt, but his team-mates still managed to end Wales’ Russian ambitions with a backs-against-the-wall win in Cardiff last October.

Giggs says that revenge is not in his side’s mind as they prepare for the start of the UEFA Nations League.

“I don’t think it’s about revenge,” said Giggs. “It was a disappointing night and the lads can’t wait now. It’s a fantastic game.

“A new manager, a new start to an exciting tournament so I think it’s all about that.”

Wales will be without Euro 2016 hero Hal Robson-Kanu who has announced his retirement from the international game.

The other ten members of the starting team from the last meeting are in the panel and significantly they have Gareth Bale back available which is quite an upgrade on Robson-Kanu.

Newcastle’s Paul Dummett is back in the picture after a break from the international game while Giggs has kept faith with captain Ashley Williams even though he has endured a year to forget.

Highly-rated Chelsea starlet Ethan Ampadu – who picked Wales ahead of Ireland – is also in contention.
