PORTMARNOCK ended their seven-year wait for a Leinster pennant in the AIG Senior Cup when they beat Dun Laoghaire 3.5-1.5 in the provincial final at Mount Juliet.

It was the north Dublin club’s 30th success in Leinster and they now go on to face Connacht champions County Sligo in the AIG All Ireland Cups and Shields finals at Thurles from October 4-7.

Following a 3.5-1.5 win over Old Conna in the quarter-finals, Portmarnock beat Enniscorthy 4-1 in the semi-finals as a confident Dundalk side fell 3.5-1.5 to Dun Laoghaire.

With the experience of Geoff Lenehan, Stephen Walsh, James Fox, John Greene and Daragh Coghlan, they were too strong for Dun Laoghaire with Lenehan beating Alan Fahy one up, Walsh beating Marc Nolan 3&2 and Coghlan defeating Colin Woodroofe 2&1.
